Moto Gymkhana Open Range

June 7, 2025 @ 9:00 amJune 8, 2025 @ 6:00 pm

Motorcycle gymkhana is a motorcycle time trial sport where riders compete to maneuver quickly through a paved course restricted by traffic cones or other obstacles. It is relatively open to beginners because riders need little equipment and no special license to participate.

Because of the course’s tight turns, riders generally use only first and second gear. The speed range is, therefore, usually low or moderate. Motorcycle gymkhana requires technique, ability, knowledge, and motorcycle experience. Riders must know the accelerationbraking, handling, and weight transfer methods and how to tune the machine to maximize performance.

Vehicles

  • Motorcycles used in Gymkhana must be street-legal and currently inspected.
  • A machine must have one wheel at the front and one at the rear.
  • Tires must be street legal, so racing tires such as dry slicks and supermotard slicks are not allowed.
  • Treads must be deep enough, and worn-out tires are not allowed.

Riders

  • Riders are required to wear a full-face, racing-style motorcycle helmet. Open-face and half helmets are not recommended.
  • Motorcycle gloves and elbow protectors are required, and protectors for shoulders, chest, and back are recommended.
  • Other choices for protection are a leather jacket or a leather racing suit with built-in protectors.
  • Riders must wear knee protectors on their pants on the lower body. Protectors for the hips and shins are also recommended.
  • No exposed skin; clothing must be in good shape and equipped as defined above.
  • Riders must wear boots over the ankles. Boots may be worn without laces so long as those boots have sufficient fastening mechanisms.

Range

  • Riders will queue up near the start gate of the range (see your range aids).
  • Only one rider will be allowed on the active range at a time, though a coach may accompany the rider if requested.
  • There is only one entrance onto the range; entering the range is done at the start gate.
  • Should a rider need to exit the range, [s]he may enter the pit lane (colored purple). The range cannot be reentered from the pit lane.
  • The average time to complete the run is about two minutes.

Admission

  • Entrance onto the range is $30 for one day and $50 for a weekend event.
  • If a rider is deemed unable to or not permitted to ride for any reason, they will be dismissed and their entrance fee refunded.

Respect the riders. Respect the range.
